Boogee, Sandy & Mornings Meals

Growing up as an only child in Small Town, Canada I came up with my fair share of alter-egos – some of which I still think of as fairly cool, like "Green Girl" who was a superhero of some kind. I had my "Eddie" phase and "Meeks" phase and I'm not sure how much any of those affected my parents, but I do know that "Mornings Meals" was a moniker I lived by that required a lot of explaining to guests in our home (and at least one babysitter).

With that said, meet Sandy and Boogee (the "g" is a soft g as in "gee whiz"). Sandy and Boogee have been around most of the summer and failure to acknowledge the respective parties as such has been met with correction. My boys have a few other alter-egos also (they get it from their mother), but Sandy and Boogee are far and away the most popular.

Seth is Boogee. He lives in the CN Tower and has a baby named Lassie that cries a lot. He also has a cat named Woolie and I am allowed to visit on Sundays at which time he will make me breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Nate is Sandy. He lives in a Boogle and has a baby named Mommy. Mommy is an easy baby and doesn't cry. She will be all grown up by Christmas which is a relief since having another Mommy around would be a big help. Sandy also has a cat named Gloomby and I am welcome anytime, but I shouldn't expect meals.

This is the CN Tower that Boogee lives in with an adjoining Boogle for Sandy:

I think it's nice that they want to live side-by-side – even though there will always be disagreements about one thing or another. You can't tell in this picture, but Seth is getting a bit annoyed with the "adjustments" Nate is making to the CN tower part:

But when the finger comes out, look out!

"This is your last warning, Nate! NAAAAATE!
You can keep doing that I guess, but then you will have to go to your room.
OK. Time to go to your room Nate!"*

*It's always weird to hear my own words (more or less) echoed back at me. Boogee is going to make a fine Mommy someday (even if his baby does cry all the time).

A Warning

A warning from the OP: if you possess fur or feathers Nate is going to love you.

"Here I am - ready to love you!"

Relentlessly and without mercy.*

"You are enjoying this, yes? Because I love you. My thumbs digging into
your breastbone are a sign of my devotion. Let's run away together."

- L.

PS. My boys couldn't be more different when it comes to animals. Nate chases squirrels and birds hoping to catch one to "love". Seth on the other hand is extremely wary and often asks "is that going to eat me?" first. 3 and a half is a wonderfully imaginative time, but it's also fraught with a good deal of imaginary danger.

One of my favourite Seth-isms on seeing a man holding a wee Pomeranian:

"Is that man holding the dog so it won't eat me?"

*We all have our kryptonite. Nate comes unglued at the sight of wasps. He's never been stung. Fur and feathers = good. Insects are generally good, worms are fun and so far no one has inherited my fear of spiders.

Tale As Old As Time...

Ever just the same, ever a surprise, ever as before and ever just as sure as the sun will rise.*

*My last post was a bit tongue-in-cheek. I already knew we were going shopping for princess gear today. The boys have been smitten since we watched Cinderella last week. Belle has upped the ante this week. We raided all the dollar stores and had a blast after lunch today. I never in a million years would have believed I'd have fun playing princesses or that my boys would either, but there you go.

A Wish Is A Dream Your Heart Makes...

"What are you wishing for Mommy?"
"Hmm... I don't remember anymore. That picture was from a long time ago."
"Were you wishing for two little boys?"
"You know, I probably was. I think I always wanted two little boys, even when I was too little to know that would be exactly what I would want someday."
